There are two basic parts that make up a computer-

1- Hardware

2-Software

1-Hardware-

Hardware is basically anything that we can touch is known as hardware.

Ex- CPU (central processing unit…Pentium chip), Monitor ,Keyboard & Mouse, Disk Drive, Zip Drive, CD-ROM, DVD, Hard Drive, Memory (RAM), Speakers, Printer etc.

There are Three main category of hardware are-

Input Device

Output Device

Storage Device

COMPUTER HARDWARE

SOFTWARE-

Software is the programs and applications that tell the computer what to do and how to look.

Computer programmers write the codes/instructions that make-up software applications/programs.

TYPES OF SOFTWARE

Mainly there are three types of software:-

Application Software

System Software

Utility Software

System Software-

Those Software which are used to provide interface between user and hardware is known as system software.

Ex- Operating Software.

Application Software-

Those Software are used to  perform a particular task is known as application software.

Ex- Abode Flash Player,Google Chrome, Mx Player, Vlc Player, etc

Application Software

Utility Software-

Those Software which are used as a helping tool for our convenience is known as utility software.

Ex- Antivirus

Other Types of Software

1- Freeware Software-

Freeware software is available without any cost. Any user can download it from the internet and use it without paying any fee.

Ex- Adobe Reader

2- Shareware Software-

It is a software that is freely distributed to users on trial basis. It usually comes with a time limit and when the time limit expires, the user is asked to pay for the continued service.

Ex- Winzip, photoshop

3- Open Source Software-

These kinds of software are available to users with the source code which means that a user can freely distribute and modify the software.

Ex- Linux OS

4- Proprietary Software-

Proprietary software is any software that is copyrighted and bears limits against use, distribution and modification that are imposed by its publisher and developer.

Ex- MS Office, Antivirus
